Waddup people reading this post right now!! I have a lot to talk about but I might as well jump to the point. A lot of you are worried about "Freshman 15" and even more of you are wondering if it's even a real thing.. Well, yes, it happens a lot! Its your first year, first semester.. highschool is NOT like University and you're stressed, bored and have a 3hr gap between classes .. you just so happen to be walking by a McDonalds? well.. that's how it starts!
To jump right to it, this is for my lovely first years out there! Here are tips to avoid it.
1. You're going to snack no matter what so pick the right snacks.
- The thing is you'll have a lot of free time and if you're like me & your university is at the heart of downtown, there is an unlimited amount of places to go and grab a snack. What I found that worked the most was to bring your own snack! Like the cute little Special K snacks will do the job trust me! Buy a box which is pretty cheap at Nofrills & you'll be good. **Remember to eat slowly, you'll get full faster**
2. Drink lots of water you thirsty bitches!
- Many times that you think you're hungry.. you're really just thirsty.. haha thirsty.. get it? .. okay moving on.. Having a bottle of water with you at all times does not only help with your metabolism but helps with hunger as well. You'll see the difference it makes drinking water when you THINK you're hungry! For you fancy Starbucks drinkers like I am, here is an idea: Go to Starbucks & order a VENTI cup of water with lemon (ITS COMPLETELY FREE.. idk about the lemon though) but you get to have your little fancy cup & sip on your water like it's a Venti cup of vanilla bean frap ;)
3. Chew gum - (Avoid being a Cow).
- Make sure it's the long lasting gum! No one likes any thing that is short lasting ;) hahhahaha .. ha ..ha. Okay, choose wisely when it comes to gum! Gum does make you hungry but the tastes that it gives you can really help with hunger or craving everything that you see. Chew wisely.. no one likes a cow! The thing about gum is that it helps with eating randomly. Many times people grab a bag of chips because they're bored.. yes.. not hungry, just bored. Gum will help replace those chips.
4. Eat Healthy.. sorta.
- Oh yes yes.. I know, that's totally a no brainer point right there but people just avoid eating healthy because "aint nobody got time for that though"... Okay, here is what I do. I make sure I eat at least one meal at home, either breakfast or lunch (depending on what time your classes are) so that only leaves one more meal to eat at school. Eat as little and healthy as you can when you're at home & leave lot's of room for something else at school. I know, it sounds crazy but if you plan on not eating healthy, might as well leave room for the non healthy eating food or whatever you're shoving down your throat. For the people who actually want to eat healthy, the only way you'll avoid messing up is bringing your food to school. No, it will not make you look like a highschool student all over again, it will cut the muffin off your hips! Bring a simple sandwich that you can eat through out the day! I packed sandwiches a lot when I was in first year and It helped a lot because I'd go back home with not a single cent spent on food.
5. Sleeping patterns will be the death (or birth) of you.
- University can really mess with your sleeping pattern.. like what is a sleeping pattern bruh? Haha! To be honest, the best you can do is to just sleep early or wake up late. My point is that you need a certain amount of sleep to help with your digestive system. If you know you have an AM class, go to bed early, if you have an afternoon class, then you can stay up but be sure to wake up late. (Exam period is a totally different story though). Even slept for only 4hrs & wake up bloated? ... well yeah, that's what happens when you do not get enough sleep! Get enough sleep and your digestive system moving.
Since I'm keeping it short & simple I'll just end it here... GET UP AND DO SOMETHING! Don't be like me & sit on your ass blogging everyday... jks! I'm really proud of a couple friends that have transformed a lot over the year from meaty to bony or from bony to muscular (Hi Danny)! But really, girls and boys.. go to the gym, walk from Union station to Dundas and marry the gym during your spare time. It makes a difference and it'll help with the balance of life and all that karma sutra shit ;)
GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU FIRST YEAR BEAUTIES <3
